Garage Door Bros Intro Plus Industry FAQs

Garage Door Bros Introduction

We are a family-owned garage door installation and repair business operating in Chattanooga, TN and the surrounding tri-state area. The business was founded by brothers Nate and Matt Welsh in 2022. Matt has lived and worked in the area (both TN and GA) since 1990 and Nate since 1993, except for 7 years where Nate maintained and managed heavy equipment for a nationwide road construction company in Florida.

Work Experience.

Nate has 15 years of experience: home construction (3 years), gas and diesel vehicle repairs (12 years) which involved working on all parts of the vehicles serviced; starting at a small auto repair shop and progressing to managing thousands of pieces of heavy equipment for a large road construction corporation. Matt has 17 years’ experience as a painter (6 years) and as a carpenter (11 years). Nate has over a year of experience in installing and repairing garage doors. They have found that what they both learned in other industries transfers well to the garage door industry. Visit “about us” page on our website for more details.

Why we chose garage doors.

Garage Door Bros was founded with the idea that we could make a difference in the quality of garage doors installed and the repairs performed. Nate worked in the industry for the first few months and saw many areas in the industry that could (and still can) be improved upon.

Areas of the garage door industry that can be improved.

We see doors that aren’t installed correctly. Sometimes the springs are wound too tight which can cause breakage. Other times they are not wound tight enough which makes the door difficult to lift and causes unusually high wear on the opener.

Parts are not always installed in the correct location. When this happens the cables can rub against other parts which creates wear and can potentially cause a cable to break. Parts of the garage door and opener system are often not lubricated or checked for wear or for correct installation.

One way we are working to fix this is by offering an initial free garage door system inspection and lubrication. Another way is by providing the best quality in service and parts to our clients while working within their respective budgets.

Our vision is to continue to provide only the best service far into the future, improving the safety and the uptime of garage door systems in the tri-state area. To be the best that we can be at what we do. To treat others the way we want to be treated.

3 Quick Garage door FAQ’s

1 Question: How long will my opener last?

Answer: There have been many tests performed on openers by industry experts and manufacturers which determine the average life expectancy of an opener to be 10-15 years or x cycles.

2 Question: Why doesn’t my garage door open when I push the button on the keypad?

Answer: This issue is often caused either by an object in the path of the photo eyes (located on the bottom of the tracks) or because they are not aligned correctly (they should be pointing directly at each other). If this is the case, make sure there are not any objects blocking the view of the photo eyes and/or align them to point at each other. (There may be a light that turns green when they are properly aligned.)

If this does not work:

You might still be able to force open or force close the door by holding down on the close button until the door is fully closed. Of course, this will disable any safety shutoff, so you will need to make sure the area is clear.

Otherwise, you might have damaged photo eyes that need repaired or replaced or, in rare cases, you might need your opener repaired or replaced.

Question: 3 My garage door is very loud when it closes how can I make it quieter?

Answer: This can be caused from normal wear or lack of lubricant on the working parts of the system. Often simply lubricating the moving parts will drastically reduce the noise. There are other ways to potentially reduce the noise of a garage door such as: install quiet Teflon rollers or adjust the hinges to allow for a slight gap in between the door panels which prevents them from rubbing together when the door closes.
